A brand new podcast: Tantramar Nature Talks

My friend Brittany and I started a podcast this winter called Tantramar Nature Talks.

Here is the podcast description and episode 1

Tantramar Nature Talks is your go-to podcast for learning about the natural spaces and species in Tantramar, NB. Every month, we bring you a different story about the wildlife that calls Tantramar home, and the people who draw inspiration and meaning from this beautiful place. From the Christmas Bird Count to climate action, community resilience or the history of the marshes, we dig into the heart of Tantramar and the community of nature-lovers that cherish it.

Tantramar is located in the district of Siknikt, in the unceded and surrendered lands of the Mi’gmaq. Tantramar Nature Talks is written, recorded and produced by Mira Dietz Chiasson and Brittany Cormier. Our intro music is Thread in the Clouds by moodmode and our cover image was illustrated by Luke Hounsell. Special thanks to CHMA Radio for making this podcast possible.

Please subscribe on YouTube or Spotify! Our podcast is not currently on Apple Podcasts but we’re working on it.

Episode 1

We’re going on a bird count!

It’s a yearly tradition: around the holidays, dozens of volunteers don hats, mitts and binoculars and scramble out into the marshes and forests of Tantramar, looking and listening for birds. It’s all part of the longest-running citizen science initiative in North America, the Christmas Bird Count. The bird count provides valuable data for scientists and decision makers, but as you’ll hear, it’s also full of fun and surprises.

Featuring Sean Blaney from the Atlantic Canada Data Conservation Centre,  the kids Christmas bird count, volunteers from the Jolicure Sector, and participants at the tally dinner.
